Your home, your priorities

Start with the rooms that are not working

For a Springfield renovation or addition, the most useful starting point is the way the house feels in daily use. Tell us where movement is awkward, which spaces need more light and where the household needs more room.

Before you choose a direction

We can compare targeted layout changes with a larger addition. Understanding the existing structure and the relationship between rooms helps determine whether new space solves the problem or simply moves it elsewhere.

Modernish Marvel — a project by Robie J. Wood Architect

Modernish Marvel

A non-descript colonial was given new life by a client who desired a look that better fit their tastes. The exterior was stripped down with a mix of traditional and modern materials, clean lines and minimal ornament. The interior was opened up to create uninterrupted living space between Dining, Kitchen and Living Room. A new rear deck and pergola completed the assembly.

Cape Cod to Cape Anne — a project by Robie J. Wood Architect

Cape Cod to Cape Anne

An efficient and economical solution to expanding a second floor was provided by utilizing the lesser known Cape Anne Style. Cape Anne's have gambrel style roofs which allow more living space than the traditional Cape Cod style's gable roof. Three ample bedrooms were created and a gracious bathroom.

Plan around your property

A project starts with your goals and the information available about the building and site. Bring a survey, drawings and photographs if you have them, along with any known constraints or previous approvals.

Requirements depend on the property and proposed work. Municipal guidance helps identify what to check; the design and review process should be tailored to the specific project.

From conversation to a clear next step

  1. Share the property location, project goals and available information.
  2. Discuss the scope and which feasibility questions need attention.
  3. Explore design options and agree on the next phase of work.
